When Melissa Brengel, sister of a firefighter that died at Ground Zero on 9/11, had her American flag stolen she was devastated. The flag had previously flown over the Twin Tower rubble and was presented to Brengal’s family to commemorate the heroic acts of her brother firefighter Jonathan Ielpi on 9/11.  Soon word got out about the stolen flag’s significance. Much to Melissa’s surprise, she awoke on July 4th to find the flag neatly folded into a triangle accompanied by a note that simply read “I’m sorry. I had no idea.” Brengel is relieved that the flag is in her care once again and hopes that the thief has learned a valuable lesson from the incident.
