Daily Devotions: What a Privilege!

From Joy for the Journey

What a Privilege!

joyforthejourney-coverWisdom, power, and wealth—God warns us against pridefully finding glory in these. In Jeremiah 9:23–24, God calls us to glory in the fact that we know and understand Him. That is a rather mind-boggling reality—you have been invited to know and to be in relationship with the Creator, Sustainer, and sovereign Ruler of the universe. Knowing Him means seeing Him when others don’t. You see His loving-kindness in the way He faithfully answers your prayers and provides for all your needs. You find hope and peace in the truth that He will one day exercise judgment against the immoral and ungodly. You see His righteousness in His commands, and you look forward to the ultimate victory when Jesus returns to reign in righteousness.

What a privilege to know the Lord! May your time spent reading God’s Word, worshiping the Lord, and praying to Him bring you great joy day in and day out. Glory in the fact that you know the Lord!

“Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,
Let not the mighty man glory in his might,
Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;
But let him who glories glory in this,
That he understands and knows Me,
That I am the Lord, exercising loving-kindness, judgment,
and righteousness in the earth.
For in these I delight,” says the Lord.”
-Jeremiah 9:23–24

“All that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.” -1 John 2:16

“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.” -James 4:10
